Ayfer Orhan, Labour's
Parliamentary Spokesperson for Hemel Hempstead, say's " It's no
good having a great GP service if the hours don't fit your
needs."
Ayfer welcomes figures* showing
that all but one Hemel Hempstead's GP practices are now open at
least once a week for an evening or weekend surgery.
Commenting on the updated
figures, Labour's Parliamentary Spokesperson for Hemel Hempstead
said:
"What's clear to me is that we
need an NHS which is fit for Modern life. One of the first steps in
making this happen is in changing GP services. Most of us will
visit our GP from time to time. Let's be honest, it's almost no
good having a great GP if you aren't able to get there during the
day"
"We all have busy lives-
fitting in everything can be a challenge particularly if you
are trying to balance bringing up children with work or just trying
to get away from the office at a decent time."
"Labour is on the side of hard
working families and is encouraging GP's surgeries to extend hours
to accommodate prople's busy lives. The Tories are against this and
think that patients should be forced to seek treatment and
advice around a set of 9 to 5 opening hours"
"At the same time I am
delighted that Hemel Hempstead will also have a new GP -led Health
Centre opening 8am-8pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year, for
bookable and walk-in appointments."
* Position stated following a
telephone survey conducted by the Labour Party of all GP surgeries
in Hemel Hempstead during July 2008 after East of England SHA
supplied figures for the West Hertfordshire PCT area.
